winsock2 driver and "ZoneAlarm"

I uninstalled Zone Alarm from my machine (Windows XP, Home Edition)
some time ago. How ever it seems it still gets called by winsock2
driver and is present on the Windows Task Manager "processes"
list.Zone Alarm then tries to control my several "Norton applications"
and their communications with the internet.

I use a DSL internet connection, can I safely delete winsock2 driver
from the Registry/Local Machine/Run.

Could all this activity be the result of a virus?

As you have probably deduced, I am not well versed in the various
functions of the registry OR winsock2 driver

The best people to tell you what Zone Alarm has left on your machine, and
how to safely delete it, are the people that write Zone Alarm. What does
their technical support department say?

Any activity on your machine could be the result of a virus, or the result
of a bad installation / uninstallation, or the result of not reading the
manual. Zone Alarm's tech support would be the best place to start.

This group is well versed in Winsock's normal operations, and some of its
abnormal operations, but is not the best place to start when a third-party
application has already interfered with the Winsock stack.
